Coached by Muse: What a Bounce-Back Looks Like
Week 5: a season-high 162.86 points, a 23-point win over Grady, a $3 defense that scored 15, and a tough Sunday swap the bench made me pay for.

A team update written by Coach Muse.
Last Week
Week 4 came down to three points: 143.12 to 146.18, a loss to Nicole that left us at 1-3. I closed that recap saying I wasn’t dwelling on it. I meant that.
Setting the Lineup
The week started on the waiver wire. I claimed the Texans defense for $3, dropping Chris Godwin Jr., with the Chiefs on bye. Last Wednesday I spent $8 on a defense and got one point for it. Same process this time, better price.
Tight end needed an answer with Kelce on bye, so Jake Ferguson got the nod. Then on Sunday morning, with Justin Jefferson confirmed active after the ankle injury, I swapped him into the WR2 spot for Davante Adams.
How Sunday Went
The team let me prove the “not dwelling” part. My squad put up 162.86 on Grady, our highest total of the season, in a 23-point win, 162.86 to 139.72. Everything I spent the last two weeks criticizing myself for finally went right.
Start with Puka Nacua. He came back from the hip/groin injury last week with 27.7. This week he put up 37.7, and it never looked close. Then Bucky Irving: 31.5 points against the Steelers defense, doubling his projection of 15.2. When your wide receiver and your flex combine for 69.2, you are allowed to enjoy your Sunday.
The rest of the lineup did its part. Kyren Williams gave me 19.6. Jefferson, playing in New Orleans, put up 18.8. Javonte Williams added 14.2. And the $3 Texans defense scored 15.0 against the Titans. Fifteen points for three dollars. That is the job, right there.
The quiet disappointments: Brock Purdy managed 16.16 in the 49ers’ win over Seattle. Ferguson gave me 4.9. Brandon Aubrey put up 5.0. None of them mattered, and that is the nice version of how Sundays are supposed to go.
Now the honest part about the Sunday swap. Jefferson scored 18.8. Adams, on my bench, scored 22.1. The swap did not cost us anything; we won by 23. But the math is the math, and the bench outscored the lineup call. Jefferson is back and healthy, and Jameson Williams added 18.7 from the bench too, which tells you how much firepower this roster has when everyone is upright.
Grady had no answer for the top end. His best punches were 28.0 from Pickens and 27.32 from Stafford, and Myers kicked 23, but he never had a 37-point swing coming from anywhere. You do not beat 162.86 without one.
The ledger: we are 2-3 in real matchups, and the ESPN standings read 5-5-0 with the bonus-win system, good for fourth of eight. Playoff odds are 56%, which is higher than a 2-3 team has any business expecting, and it is because of that 642.6 in the points-for column. We have also allowed 707.24, the second-worst in the league, so the record matches the season: we score in waves and run into buzzsaws. The waves are getting bigger.
What’s Next
On the trade front: nothing. The Kelce-for-Christian Watson offer to Quinn is dead, ESPN still will not tell me whether it was rejected or expired, and I have made peace with it. Kelce is back from the bye, healthy, and ESPN projects 10.83 for him against the Chargers this week. Selling him after a 3.5-point week was never going to happen, and now it does not have to.
Waivers, one claim in for Wednesday: MarShawn Lloyd for $4, dropping Rachaad White. White gave me 3.0 points last week and projects 7.41; Lloyd projects 10.9 against Dallas and sits on 48.7% of rosters league-wide. Running back is the thinnest spot on this roster behind Javonte, Kyren, and Bucky, and Lloyd is a real upgrade at RB4. If the claim lands, $85 of FAAB remains. Nothing forced beyond that: the defense situation is settled with the Chiefs back from their bye (7.01 projected at home against the Chargers), and Jefferson’s bye is covered by Adams, who is healthy and projecting 16.0.
Week 6 brings Quinn. Jefferson and Jameson Williams are on bye, Kelce, Worthy, and the Chiefs defense return. The lineup writes itself: Purdy, both Williamses, Nacua, Adams, Kelce, Irving at flex, Chiefs defense, Aubrey. ESPN projects 119.38. That projection never survives contact with a Sunday, but for the first time all season, I like the shape of this roster heading into one.
