Sitting on hold with an insurer is a familiar job to hand an agent. In this account, shared via a Hacker News comment that quoted the original write-up, a user had Muse place the call to their dental insurer instead of doing it themselves.
The agent supplied the member ID, answered a security question, and stayed on the line through the hold queue. When a representative finally picked up, Muse handed the call over to the user.
The call reached a representative roughly ten minutes before the handoff, so the user skipped the hold entirely. The source reports no other figures, and the commenter noted they hadn’t yet tried it themselves.
What Muse did
- Placed an outbound call to the dental insurer
- Provided the member ID when asked
- Answered a security question
- Waited through the hold queue
- Transferred the call to the user once a representative answered
Try it
- “Call my dental insurer at [phone number] and ask whether [procedure] is covered under my plan. My member ID is [ID]. Stay on hold as long as it takes, and bring me in when a representative answers. Don’t share anything beyond my member ID without checking with me first.”
- “I need to ask [insurer] about [question]. Call them, get through the phone tree and the hold, and transfer me when a person picks up. If they ask for anything besides my member ID, pause and ask me.”
Safety notes
- Muse’s calling is a beta feature, and its availability varies.
- Some businesses hang up on AI callers, so a call may not get through.
- Some Muse calls have involved a human contractor stepping in to complete the task. If that matters to you, ask what’s happening on your call.
- Share only the details the task needs. Keep your member ID and other personal information out of the request unless the call requires it.
- Review any approval Muse shows you before it commits to anything on your behalf.
Questions
Does Muse make the whole call itself?
Muse handled dialing, the phone tree, the security question, and the hold, then transferred the call to the user for the conversation with the representative.
What if the insurer asks for something I didn’t authorize?
Tell Muse in advance what it may and may not share. If a request falls outside that, it should pause and check with you, and you should confirm the approval screen names exactly what will be shared.
