Muse vs Grok: Comparing Meta's and xAI's AI Agents
Muse is built to run your errands. Grok is built to talk, with live X data and a distinct personality. How Meta's and xAI's assistants compare.

Muse and Grok both want to be the AI you rely on every day, but they approach it from opposite ends. Muse, Meta’s agent launched September 8, 2026, is built to do things for you: shop, book, email, and handle tasks in the background. Grok, xAI’s assistant, is built to talk: fast, opinionated conversation grounded in live data from X, now growing its own automation features.
The short version
- Muse is task-first: background errands, shopping checkout, and business tool integrations, with approvals before it spends or sends.
- Grok is conversation-first: real-time X data, a witty personality, voice interaction, and image generation.
- Both are moving toward agents: Muse from the task side, Grok through Automations (skills and scheduled workflows) and Grok Bot for enterprise teams.
- Pick Muse to delegate chores. Pick Grok for live commentary, social trends, and a more entertaining daily driver.
The core difference: doing vs talking
Muse’s unit of work is the completed task. You describe the outcome; it browses, fills forms, compares options, and checks out, asking permission before anything irreversible. Sessions run on a dedicated virtual machine, so work continues after you close the app.
Grok’s unit of work is the conversation. Its edge is live context: direct access to X posts and trends, which makes it strong on breaking news, sentiment, and what people are saying right now. xAI styles it as witty and a little rebellious, where most assistants default to neutral.

Where Grok pulls ahead
If your day involves staying current, Grok is hard to beat. The X integration is first-party, so questions about live events, launches, and public reactions get fresher answers. Voice is a strength: Grok Voice launched in June 2026 with voice cloning and ranked first in Vapi’s independent evaluation. It also generates images and rides along in Tesla vehicles.
xAI is building its agent features: Grok Automations adds reusable skills and scheduled workflows, and Grok Bot gives enterprise teams bots that learn by watching a demonstration, with audit logs and action recording for governance. xAI’s September 2026 enterprise announcement named Legora, Supermicro, and ServiceTitan as customers.
Where Muse pulls ahead
Muse’s lead is in completing transactions. The Shopify and Shop Pay integration means it can check out on real stores; Expedia and OpenTable cover travel and dining; Instacart covers groceries. The Sentinel permission system distinguishes read from write access, and Meta says the agent will not publish, message, or purchase without approval. For small businesses, the September 29 expansion connects it to Shopify, QuickBooks, Stripe, Canva, and Slack.
Muse also launched with distribution most agents never get: about 2.5 million downloads in its first two weeks, per Sensor Tower estimates, and the top spot on the US App Store’s free chart.
Which one fits you
Pick Muse if you want an assistant that finishes jobs: shopping, booking, inbox triage, business admin. Pick Grok if you want the most plugged-in conversationalist: live trends, quick takes, voice chat, and a witty personality.
These are different tools: Muse does your chores; Grok keeps you company and current. The race to watch is whether Grok’s automation push or Muse’s conversational polish closes the gap first.
We have compared Muse against the other major assistants too: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity.
